Signature bass from legenday bassplayer Carles Benavent handmade y luthier Jerzy Drozd.
It is a true original design that has been created to fulfill the needs of master flamenco bassplayer Carles Benavent who single handedly invented flamenco bass style and was part of the seminal Paco de Lucía Sextet for over two decades.
When Carles Benavent and Jerzy Drozd sat down to design this bass the whole idea was to come with an organic bass that would be perfectly suited for this bassplayer. Special requirements were semihollow construction, 33" scale, E-C tuning and ultra narrow neck (think of it as a 5 string bass in a 4 string neck).
The looks of this work of art remind of classic semihollow basses like Benanvent's one Gibson EB-2 but with an Art-Decó flavour to it that makes the Barcelona name really come to mind when you look at it.
Electronics consist of a handwound split noiseless magnetic pickup located at the sweet spot as well as an RMC piezo system. There's a stacked pot that contols the Blend between the two pickups and then there's a treble roll off, very handy to get a smooth sound from the piezo.
There's an internal buffer preamp that makes the RMC piezo matche the impedance of the magnetic pickup.
This is a used bass and shows some blemishes but you are saving a lot of money on this really special instrument. A new bass like this would cost around 10.000€ if ordered now plus there's a really long build up time.
