Here's a new bass from the Irish Master Luthier Chris Larkin.

In this case it is a Singlecut model that allows unrestricted access up to the 24th fret. There are plenty of Singlecut basses in the market these days, and each one is a little bit different. Chris take on this popular design is in our opinion very well designed, offering great comfort and playability both seated and standing with a strap.

This bass was a custom order for a customer and shows how a custom bass can feature the customer's personal preferences.

At Doctorbass.net we love these projects and are more than happy to listen to your ideas and turn them into the bass of your dreams collaborating with the right luthier.

The neck is a multilaminate of maple with no less than 5 pieces and a stunning central piece of flamed maple. For the sides we chose utile for low weight and resonance. the top is made from a beautiful piece of bird's eye maple.

The 35" scale is in part responsible for the excelleny low B, which is loud and clear, just at it should be.

This customer wanted a versatile bass that could deliver a lot of useable tones, ranging from deep (reggae style) to Musicman style and anything in between. Chris suggested a set of parallel wired Larkin/Armstrong humbuckers widely spaced, and this proved to be a great idea. We are big fans of John East preamps, so we chose a U Retro 01 unit, which seems to be the perfect match for these pickups. Two switches allow you to choose Single Coil/Double Parallel/Double Series, so lots of choices here.

Another custom option that this customer specified was a balanced XLR output which is a great option in the studio.

Bridge and tuners by Schaller were chosen for their proven effectiveness.

To sum up, a true professional bass that will give years of joy to the owner.

Nota: If you like this bass but have a different idea on your ideal bass, we'll be glad to listen to your suggestion and guide you through the exciting process of ordering a custom bass that will adapt to your needs. We really think it makes sense!
