This is a handmade bass by French luthier Paul Lairat. Paul has been building amazing insturments from his shop in Souther France since 2000.

The Myra model is one of the newest ones in his catalogue and as you can see it is what is usually called a "Super Jazz Bass". We would actually go one step further and we'd call it a "Boutique Super Jazz Bass".

With a traditional design, this bass feels instantly familiar and is really comfortable thanks to the 34" scale, 18mm spacing at the bridge and 46mm nut.

The body is made from a wengé tone block, mahogany wings and a gorgeous piece of quilted maple for the top.

The neck is a multilaminate made from no less than 11 pieces (6 pieces maple, 2 mahogany, 2 walnut and 1 wenge). Impressive. The fingerboard is made from top noth ebony and it sports 22 frets.

Two Nordstrand Single Coil pickups are uses and these are absolutely fantastic (full and clear sound). Each of them is just about perfect on their own (the bridge pickup sounds definitely warmer and fuller than most and the neck pickup is thick but with a lot of note definition). Blending both pickups produces that slightly scooped sound but in this case it is not as hollow as what you find on many basses equipped with two single coil pickups. Using both pickups you get a really good all round sound that can be used just about for any style with the advantage that you can swtich from fingerstyle to slap without the need to reach the onboard EQ at all.

Electronics are by Glockenkland and all 3 bands are really well chosen. Lows are 40Hz (+/- 14dB), Midrange is 550hz (+-9dB) and Treble is 18kHz (+/-18 dB). This means that the Low will add depth and punch but they will never get muddy. The midrange pot has been deliberately been given less range so it is easier to use in a live situation. The Treble pot has enough scope to bring a lot of detail if needed when boosted or get a more traditional sound when cut. This Treble pot acts as a Passive Tone in Passive mode too.

To sum up: a bass that looks gorgeous, plays amazing and sounds just great. What's not to love here?
