This is the Premium Line Gewa Hybrid Double bass.

The value for money here is pretty amazing. Actually an upright bass with this selection of woods, construction and sound would have costed at least twice as much a few years ago.

The hybrid concept means that while the top is solid spruce, back and sides are laminated (in this case flamed maple)making for a very sturdy and road ready instrument that will repond equally well to pizzicato or arco.

The violin corners are not just beautiful to look at, but also play an important role in the sound as they tend to control the inner air that is caused by the vibrating top, making for a cleaner sound.

This is not just a great starter upright bass but also a great second instrument. Don't want to take your valued solid carved top German or Italian bass on the road? We understand. Use one like this and you'll get great results.

Acoustically it has a beefy tone that's not lacking in low end and has a nice presence too thanks to the solid top. It works just fine in pizziato as well as arco. The curved back helps with projection too.

Laminated basses tend to just work better when you use a pickup to amplify them as they will feedback less than solid top instruments so again this is a great choice if you are going to amplify it regularly. This hybrid keeps that advantage when using amplification as well as offering a richer acoustic sound when it is not plugged in. We offer a wide selection of pickups. Unlike some other affordable basses, this one actually has an ebony fingerboard which I think is vital to withstand with the wear from steel strings. Endpin is really sold and individual brass machineheads work flawlessly.

Important note: we order all Gewa Double Basses with a pro setup that is performed by Gewa's luthiers in Germany. This ensures perfect playability out of the box. This really makes a difference as there's nothing more furstrating than buying a new upright bass and find out you have to take to a luthier and spend a lot of money on the setup.
